James Toback is accused of sexual misconduct in a lawsuit by 38 women

More than 30 women have filed a lawsuit in New York against writer and director James Toback, alleging that he has abused them sexually.
In late 2017, as the MeToo movement gained popularity, allegations that Toback had a history of sexual abuse surfaced. The Los Angeles Times broke the story first.
When Los Angeles prosecutors reviewed five cases in 2018, they found that the statutes of limitations had passed, and they decided not to press charges against Toback.
Toback, who has refuted the accusations made against him, does not have any attorneys or other representatives listed.
In the New York lawsuit, 15 of the women are identified as plaintiffs, while the remaining 23 are listed as Jane Does. In addition ...
...to Toback, the Harvard Club of New York City is also listed as a defendant because some of the women claim they were abused there.
The club received an email requesting comment.
With a more than 40-year Hollywood career, Toback was nominated for an Oscar for writing 1991's "Bugsy."
